Adding Mailgun as an SMTP

Mailgun Setup

An SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is a communication tool used for sending and receiving email messages over the Internet. Mailgun SMTP is a service that lets you send emails from your ClickFunnels account using Mailgun’s servers. This integration enhances your email capabilities, allowing you to manage transactional email campaigns more effectively. By setting up Mailgun as your SMTP provider in ClickFunnels, you can improve email deliverability and gain access to detailed analytics. This article guides you through the process of setting up Mailgun SMTP in your ClickFunnels account.

Requirements


Access and Add SMTP Settings

  1. Click on Workspace Settings in the bottom left corner of your ClickFunnels dashboard.

  2. Select Marketing Settings from the menu options.
  3. Navigate to the SMTP Settings tab.
  4. Click the Add SMTP setting button.

Configure Your SMTP Settings

Mailgun Setup

  1. Enter a descriptive Nickname for your configuration.
  2. Select your Emails domain from the dropdown menu.
  3. Choose Mailgun from the Server dropdown list.
  4. Enter the Port number (typically 587).
  5. Add your Mailgun SMTP credentials:
    1. Enter your SMTP Username
    2. Enter your SMTP Password
      To find these credentials, refer to Mailgun’s article on Adding SMTP credentials.
  6. Click the Add SMTP setting button to save your configuration.
  7. After adding SMTP settings, you’ll see the webhook section.

Adding Webhook to Process Events

A webhook allows you to track the performance of your emails sent through Mailgun. This feature provides valuable insights into your email campaigns, helping you optimize your marketing efforts. By setting up a webhook, you can track:

  • Accepted and delivered emails
  • Clicks and opens
  • Spam complaints and unsubscribes
  • Permanent and temporary failures

This data helps you optimize your email strategy, improve deliverability, and automate workflows based on recipient actions.

To set up the webhook:

ClickFunnels webhook

  1. Copy the Webhook URL from your ClickFunnels account. You can also find this URL by clicking the Edit (gear ⚙) icon next to your SMTP settings.
  2. In Mailgun, go to the Webhooks tab in the Control Panel.
  3. Click the Add Webhook button.
  4. Select the email Event Type you want to track (e.g., delivered, opened, clicked).
  5. Paste the URL you copied from ClickFunnels.
  6. Click Create Webhook to save the webhook.
  7. Return to ClickFunnels and check the Webhook URL added box.
  8. Click Update SMTP setting to save your changes.
  9. Allow a few minutes for the webhook to activate. A green checkmark will appear next to your SMTP integration once it’s verified and ready.
