# How to Create and Use Custom Attributes in MessageHub

Custom Attributes in MessageHub give you the flexibility to store extra details about your conversations and contacts, helping you create more personalized interactions and simplify your workflows. Think of them as custom fields tailored to your business needs. With Custom Attributes, it’s easier to stay organized and make every interaction more relevant and efficient for your customers.

## What Are Custom Attributes?

Custom Attributes are customizable fields you can define to capture key information relevant to your conversations or contacts. For example, you can use attributes to log order IDs in customer conversations or store follow-up dates for ongoing issues.

By using Custom Attributes, you can:

- Keep conversations organized and data-rich.
- Personalize customer support by tracking critical information.
- Simplify filtering and reporting by categorizing conversations or contacts.

## How to Create Custom Attributes

1. Navigate to the **MessageHub** app in the left-side menu in your ClickFunnels Workspace.
2. Go to **Chat** **Settings ⚙** > **Custom Attributes** in your MessageHub dashboard.
3. Click the **Add Attribute** button to create a new Custom Attribute.
4. Fill out the form with the following details:

  1. **Applies To**: Choose whether the attribute is for **Conversations** or **Contacts**.
  2. **Display Name**: Enter a clear name for the attribute (e.g., “Order ID”).
  3. **Key**: Create a unique identifier for the attribute (e.g., `order_id`).
  4. **Description**: Optionally describe the purpose of the attribute.
  5. **Type**: Select the type of data (e.g., Text, List, Date).
5. Click **Create** to save the attribute once all fields are completed.

## Applying Custom Attributes

After creating your custom attributes, you can assign them to conversations or contacts in MessageHub. This ensures your team can log important details directly in the platform for better organization and follow-up.

### Applying Attributes to Conversations

1. Open the **Conversations** tab and select a conversation.
2. The available attributes are displayed in the **Contact Attributes** section on the right-hand sidebar.

4. Enter the new value (e.g., add an **Order ID** or update an **Issue Type**).
5. Save the entry by clicking the checkmark.

### Applying Attributes to Contacts

1. Navigate to the **Contacts** tab and select a contact.
2. Navigate to the **Contact Attributes** section where the pre-set attributes are listed.
3. Click the **pencil/edit** icon next to an attribute (e.g., "Customer ID" or "Account Size").
4. Enter or update the **value**, then save your changes.

## Managing Custom Attributes

You can manage Custom Attributes in MessageHub to keep your workflows optimized and up to date. This includes editing or deleting attributes as your needs evolve.

### Editing Custom Attributes

1. Go to **Settings** > **Custom Attributes** from the dashboard.
2. Locate the attribute you want to edit under the **Conversation** or **Contact** tab.
3. Click the **pencil/edit** icon next to the attribute.

4. Update the **Display Name**, **Key**, **Description**, or **Type** as needed.
5. Click **Update** to save your changes.

### Deleting Custom Attributes

1. Navigate to **Settings** > **Custom Attributes**.

3. In the confirmation popup, type the name of the attribute to confirm.
4. Click **Delete [Attribute Name]** to permanently remove the attribute.
